MiLife

A cross between a traditional pedometer and the Wii, the MiBand includes a ‘tri-axial accelerometer’ that’ll measure your level of activity whether you’re walking, swimming or playing tennis. It’ll then automatically upload your exercise levels to a computer – and a set of special scales – via Bluetooth, and track how well you’re progressing with your fitness goals.

Lunocet Monofin

Michael Phelps swims at 5mph. With the Lunocet – a swimming fin designed like an aeroplane tail and crafted from titanium and silicon – you’ll theoretically be able to swim at 8mph and leap completely out of the water like a dolphin. It’ll be available in Britain next year.

Fabrican

Forget sweaty vests – why not just spray on a singlet and shorts from a can? Fabrican’s aerosol-based clothing is already used in fashion, but may soon appear in swimming costumes, helmets and even minimalist weightlifting gloves according to creator Dr Manel Torres.

Spyder Giant Slalom Suit

Part of training harder is having the confidence to take the occasional bump. Revolutionary fabric d3o helps with that by using intelligent molecules to absorb and disperse impacts while staying soft in regular use. This slalom suit is just one application of a technology that’s also being used in everything from footballs to ballet shoes.
