Sigma Sport Onyx - £60

'Very easy to use. The instructions are clear from the beginning and the onscreen menu is easy to navigate and understand. It also looks good. I took to it straight away.'

Polar FT80 - £280

'This looks really good and expensive. However, the instructions are not very clear and take some time to fathom, and the display isn’t very bright in darker environments. A decent HRM, but probably not great for a first-timer.'

Suunto T4C - £140

'The instructions are reasonably complicated, although I managed to find my own training zone fairly quickly once I had it in action. The monitor display is attractive and clearly visible.'

Oregon Scientific Heart Rate Monitor Watch - £30

'This is the cheapest of the bunch, which is reflected in its simple design. The instructions have a useful flow chart and it's easy to use, mainly because there aren’t too many extra functions. If all you need is a simple HRM then this will do the job.'
