Salomon Speed II - £100

‘This is lightweight, well made, ultra-protective and very comfortable. It is the most expensive but it’s worth it: the sleeve has a wristwatch window and there’s a handy chest pocket for an MP3 player or for keys and cash.’

Saucony Omni SonicLite - £60

‘The Saucony is by far the lightest of these jackets but bears a resemblance to an anorak. It certainly keeps off light rain and wind but it isn’t as breathable as the others and lacks reflective panels.’

Adidas adiStar wind jacket - £90

‘Did a great job of keeping out the wind and light rain while also being extremely breathable. It’s supposed to help muscles work more efficiently, although I didn’t notice a big difference in my running.’

Asics Centauri - £55

‘One of the cheapest jackets, and you get a lot for your money. It is bright with plenty of reflective areas, breathable and MP3-player friendly. But it is a little heavier than the others.’
