Six In The Peak Adventure Race, Peak District

A six-hour race in and around the Peak District, suitable for novices and experienced racers, that includes trail running, mountain biking, orienteering and a mystery discipline that is only revealed on the day.

The 2008 Raasay Rumble enduro race, Isle of Skye

The second outing of this ten-hour bike ride across the mountains of the Isle of Skye. Entrants should be experienced bikers with good technical skills and bucketloads of endurance.

Tough Enough Challenge, Beaudesert Park, Cannock Chase, Staffordshire

You need a five-person team to enter this 24-hour, multi-discipline challenge, which has been organised by Breast Cancer Campaign and British Military Fitness. During the event you’ll run, bike, climb, race rafts and endure tummy-turning bush tucker trials in the name of charity.

White Air World Extreme Sports Festival, Isle of Wight
 
As well as watching top pros compete in sports, such as wakeboarding, kitesurfing and skating, at White Air you can have a crack at 21 different extreme activities. But the event isn’t just about getting gnarly, rocking bands and DJs, including the Pigeon Detectives and Rob Da Bank, will be performing sets throughout the festival.

Nine Edges Endurance, Fairholmes car park, Peak District National Park

This 20-mile slog over treacherous moorland is a real test of a runner’s mettle. You’ll climb roughly 600 metres during the race and will need some navigational ability. The pay offs are the stunning views you’ll enjoy along the way and the massive sense of achievement you’ll get from completing such a lung-buster.

Atlantic Coast Challenge, Cornwall

Starting at Padstow and finishing at Land’s End, entrants must cover three marathons (78.6 miles) in three days over the wild terrain of the South West Coast Path. There are three pace groups: walkers, steady runners and fast runners, who are expected to cover 9km per hour.
